Question about 'When I choose ''Shut Down'' from the Start Menu, my computer hangs at the ''Please Wait'' screen'

I have a question about When I choose "Shut Down" from the Start Menu, my computer hangs at the "Please Wait" screen:

I have it narrowed down to the windows media player 9. When it is installed the computer will not shutdown or restart, it will hang. Uninstalling it once its installed will not correct it. I have to reformat the drive and install windows media player 7. I have no idea why. There are no patches for this.

Well it seems as if you've got the problem solved. Solution: don't install wmp9 anymore. It's deeply embedded in the system, and i wouldn't install it witout a system restore (in winme/xp), or without doing a fullback first. Some computers just have problems wiht software that some people can't explain.

I have had the same problem in Win2K and the problem was solved on my system by this link. Follow the directions... I hope this helps. http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/win2000/t1040248013 Chris

I had a similar problem using 3rd party audio drivers for my SBLive - without drivers, all is fine; with them i get hangs on shutdown. Dunno if that helps, but you may want to check this out?
