Question about 'Disable the Internet Connection Wizard'

Here's an interesting trick for getting rid of the ICW for all future users of a windows 2000 (SP3) box: Add the following key to HKEY_USERS \Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard\Completed (DWORD) Value = 1 When a new user is created it will inherit this value and not have to run ICW again...

Probably only works on local accounts, this was being used in a NetWare environment, with dynamic local-users being created by the NetWare client. I didn't have a W2k domain to try working against when I stumbled onto this solution.

Nothing of the above functions. The Correct way is: Use regedt32 and import the hive NTUSER from DefaultUser Create a new key "\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard" Put the 2 Valvues "Completed (Reg_BINARY) 01 00 00 00" and "DesktopChanged (D_WORD) 1" in it. Remove the hive again Now it works for all new created Users To make it work on old users you have to import the hive from each user and create the valvue in their Userprofile. Best regards Vagn Nielsen
