Unwanted windows at startup

I've tried all the registry edits in the article, and all those posted in the forum.
Nothing works! Whenever I log in as admin, I get 10 different windows; some are
explorer windows and others are from different applications. These are not programs
being loaded in any of the three startup locations.
I'm convinced that no registry switch is going to fix this. I've tried them all.
I would like to know where the windows location/position information is stored so
I can go wipe it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had this problem - nothing I did would get rid of the stack of windows which opened
at startup, but this works fine for Windows Me (not sure about other platforms).
I used the excellent Autoruns utility posted in one of the responses here, and found
that a program called STATEMGR.EXE was loading on startup - this looked like a likely
candidate for the problem, so I deleted the file and removed every reference to it
in the Registry, and hey presto! No more annoying windows! I did this a week ago,
and so far no problems.
Hope this helps.
