First of all, you should always reply in the original thread or else it's hard to
know what's going on...but since I do...can you boot into command prompt only? You
may have to rename it in dos. If that's not possible I would boot to the windows
2000 CD and do a repair to try to fix the problem. You can press enter to install
and then when it finds the original installation you hit R to repair and that way
you don't lose your data. You will need the CD Key though.

Thanks so much for your feeback. I will be sure to keep it in the thread incase
others need the same assistance. I took it to PC Club and they weren't able to fix
it either. They, like you, said that I would have to put in the Windows ME cd and
do a repair. But after looking for 2 hours last night I couldn't find my CD (of
course in time of need). Do you know if I call Microsoft if I can get a replacement
CD, or is this the time when I should just buy another one and upgrade to XP or go
to 98? Any suggestions?

I thought you were using Windows 2000...well, whichever OS you decide to do it would
be a good idea to reformat and do a clean install if possible. They always work better
on a clean install. Good Luck!

I had a similar problem. I had Win ME. I was uninstalling Norton Antivirus 2002.
It did get uninstalled properly. Then I restarted the PC to install Norton Antivirus
2003 Professional Edition. Thats when the problem started. It asked me to restart
to finish updating. And then at startup it said "Windows could not upgrade the file
%1 from %2". I would get just 2 error massages - the same message twice. But thn
i could go on to Windows. To remove this, I re-installed Windows ME. Thts when I
would get the same message continuously. I just left it for like 20 minutes while
it was displaying the same message, but then finally windows got installed and i
could access the Windows screen again. Thn, i quickly backed up the data and formatted
it.
