When I do a restart, I get a - at the top left hand conner of the screen and it stops
unless I puss the rest button. then it starts fine.

try to create a new user id
and test shut down the pc on the new user id a/c

No solution yet. Since my machine stays on 24/7, it has been hard for me to pin down
what caused the problem to start. Could have been the "free" upgrade to Windows Media
Player 9.
The problem was just a nuisance until I tried to load some software that required
a re-boot. Since the re-boot wasn't clean, the program didn't install correctly and
won't run.
