Question about 'Change the Icons of Desktop Items'

I have a question about Change the Icons of Desktop Items:

How do you change the Internet Explorer desktop icon (not a shortcut, the actual I.E. where right-clicking can bring up internet properties)? I changed it before by using reshack to change the icon in shell32.dll (or some file like that) but when I do a windows update, it gets a new version of that file and so it reverts back to the original 'e' icon. Is there some way to change the icon in the registry instead of just replacing the resource in shell32.dll?

This is for XP (sorry if irrelevant: brainstrugglin ).
but the method should apply.
Use regedit to find
[HKCR\CLSID\{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}\DefaultIcon]

Change the value data for:
(Default) REG_EXPAND_SZ

From:
shdoclc.dll,-190

To: (I have a LH reshacked iexplore)
C:\PROGRA~1\INTERN~1\iexplore.exe
Or etc...

Click ok to accept
Test by a Right click on desktop & select Refresh.
done ya
