Am using Win2K, sp3, and Netscape 4.x, and I created a dialer with Win2k. After connecting to the internet for a while I get an error message that says "svchost.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program." The only consequence of this message is that I have to shut down the computer to disconnect from the internet ... a big nuisance. Any ideas? Thanks.

Tip: Run a free scan for common Windows errors ad

Hi Sounds like you must download and install the win2k patch for the blaster worm. Can't remember the MSB number but put a search in Google and you'll get straight there. Hope this fixes it, it did for me and many others.

It is very important that you make sure that your virus definitions are current when you do a scan. If the OS doesn't give you time to do the scans and patching; Go to RPC in Services and change the Recovery options to Take No Action instead of Reboot.

You may have the Welchia or Nachi virus, Same virus different names by different AV companies. Fastest wau to find out is to open c:\winnt\system32\wins (c:\indows\system32\wins if you upgraded from w9x) folder if you see svchost dll or exe or whatever you have it. Easy to clean.. go to Http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/FixWelch.exe Run it and then patch your system with the ms03-026 and more importantly! the ms03-039 patch from Microsoft

That you turn off this vulnerability from microsoft? In win2k and Xp and nt4 Hit start | run type dcomcnfg on the default properties tab unselect 'enable distributed Com on this computer' You can always re-enable it the same way.. if you need it for something... which, you won't :)

The following is the change required in your registery for solving above problem Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK. In Registry Editor, expand the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Telephony\Locations

On the Registry menu, click Export Registry File. In the File name box, type locations, and then click Save. NOTE: You can restore this registry subkey by double-clicking the Locations.reg file that you saved. Under the Locations subkey, delete all Locationx folders (where x is a number) except for Location1 and Location2. For example, if the Locations registry subkey listing is similar to the following -Locations | |-- Location1 |-- Location2 |-- Location3 |-- Location4 delete the Location3 and Location4 subkeys. To delete a subkey, right-click the Locationx folder, and then click Delete. Click Yes to confirm the deletion. Rename the Location1 registry subkey as Location0 (zero). To rename a subkey, right-click it, and then click Rename. Rename the Location2 registry subkey as Location1. NOTE: The Locations subkey should appear as follows: -Locations | |-- Location0 |-- Location1 Click the Locations registry subkey. In the right pane of the Registry Editor window, right-click CurrentID, and then click Modify. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK. Right-click LocationListVersion, and then click Modify. In the Value data box, type 2, and then click OK. Right-click NextID, and then click Modify. In the Value data box, type 4, and then click OK. Right-click NumEntries (if it is present), and then click Delete. Click Yes to confirm the deletion.

On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value. Type NumEntries, and then press ENTER. Right-click NumEntries, and then click Modify. In the Value data box, type 2, and then click OK. In the left pane of the Registry Editor window, expand the Location1 subkey that is under Locations. If the AreaCodeRules subkey is not listed under Location1, follow these steps: Click the Location1 subkey (to select it if it is not already selected).

On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key. Type AreaCodeRules, and then press ENTER. Quit Registry Editor. Restart the computer.

I also had the same trouble, Norton 2002 has a seperate "Worm Remover" if you search their updates for 'worm 32'

Hello
What part did not work? A more detailed question gets a more detailed answer, but
