Question about 'Dealing with Windows's Advanced Power Management (APM)'

I have a question about Dealing with Windows's Advanced Power Management (APM):

For the past week or so I've noticed my computer doesn't shut itself off after I've done a shut down. It also doesn't reboot when I want it to. In both cases it will tell me that Windows is shutting down after a couple seconds the screen goes black. After that I either have to hold in the power button to shut it off or I have to hit the reset button to reboot. I've checked my BIOS and my "PM Controlled by APM" is Enabled and my APM is checked on my Power Options. Am I missing something or should I throw my computer out in front of the next semi to drive by?

I'm guessing some software isn't shutting down. Maybe a driver or a program. I'd
suspect things like the anti-virus program, new hardware driver, trojan horse or
a virus.

Maybe inspecting the event log would give a clue.

Matt: By now you've probably solved your problem, but in case not, here is a response that I am hoping complements Steve B's response. Go To: http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/win2000/1204929496 Roger Folsom
