Question about 'How do get the taskbar and desktop back if Explorer crashes'

I have a question about How do get the taskbar and desktop back if Explorer crashes:

I got my icons and taskbar back but everytime I reboot or shutdown I loose it again then I have to do the same process all over to recover my icons and taskbar. It seems my system is still not functioning properly. I do notice when I do a file search and type in "explorer" I got some "explorer file" that doesn't have "created date". Are this normal? I'm thinking of deleting the files and hope it will fix my problem. But before I do that let me hear from you guys. You've help me once hope you will educate me more.

Roland, PC Magazine used to have a freebie for win 98 that was called TrayManager
that was supposed to restore the tray icons/shell in the event of a crash. I have
it installed on my xp --i still have shell crashes, some worse than others

-- ctrl+alt+del restores my shell now to enable a proper reboot.

with win98 you could try a repair -- you need your win98 disk -- cant remember much
more -think it is done thru add/delete function of control panel

Pc Mag do not have freebies anymore -- think they want $20/year for their little
gems now

Do you have a Anti-Virus program? Sounds like a trojan may have attached itself to explorer.exe. Go download the trial version of Trojan Guarder. If you have a Trojan that will take care of it.

Jamie Thank you for responding. I just downloaded "trojan guarder" and it deleted some "files" it scare me coz I'm no computer wiz but I just put my trust on it. My problem still exists but I guess my computer is cleared of some virus. Another thing in mind is about those "explorer files" that doesn't have "created dates" on it when I do a "file search" are those normal? Roland
