My IE6 and Outlook Express has just plain quit working. Can't launch it from any
icon or from Start>Programs> etc. I can launch it from My Computer> and entering
a URL in the address bar.
I am running Win2KPro 5.00.2195 SP4 and IE 6 is 6.0.2800.1106 Q824145, Q330994, Q832894.

I have run spybot, and adaware and removed all instances of spyware they detect.
Still no go.

I ran Hihack This and the following is the log of that result:

Please anybody help. I have tried an alternative browser but just seems too slow.

I did run sfc /scannow and no luck there either.
I do not want to "reinstall" windows, I am hoping for a fix of some kind.
Thanks for the help.
Steve

I have the same problem... I went into IE6 and Tools --> Internet Options --> Under the "General" tab I selected "Accessiblity" and made sure that under "User Style Sheet" , the "format documents using my style sheet" was "UNCHECKED". Then I restarted IE6. When that didn't work I tried in run the latest "Ad-Aware, free version" in case a spy software was installed... Ran the program and re-started my system... so far nothing yet.. still searching.

re: ie6 quits working in Win2KPro

I had a similar problem on win 2k.. The culprit was O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /install I had to regedt32 and go to HKey_Local_Machine => software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run and delete the nWiz key. This made it all better. I was getting a "Interstitial Ad Delivery by 180 Search Assistant" which was asking if I wanted to install a porn site. There is no "NO" button, and it took over my home page even though I killed it and afterwards, it still came up every time I booted and asked the same question. These guys should be sent to Abu Graib.
