Cannot Create Toolbar Lost Quick Launch

I am running MS W/2000 pro and have lost my quick launch toolbar. When I attempt
to recreate I get the error "cannot create toolbar". I have checked and found that
the quick launch folder is in Username\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\
and had the icons for the apps. I tried deleting and recreating folder but still
cannot create toolbar. I have looked at the registry but am not confident with making
changes can someone help!

Try this
Start/Run type in sfc /scannow
--------------------------------------
System File Checker
System File Checker (sfc.exe) is a command line utility that scans and verifies the
versions of all protected system files after you restart your computer. If System
File Checker discovers that a protected file has been overwritten, it retrieves the
correct version of the file from the %systemroot%\system32\dllcache folder, and then
replaces the incorrect file.
Syntax:
sfc [/scannow] [/scanonce] [/scanboot] [/cancel] [/quiet] [/enable] [/purgecache]
[/cachesize=x]
Parameters:
/scannow
Scans all protected system files immediately.
/scanonce
Scans all protected system files once.
/scanboot
Scans all protected system files every time the computer is restarted.
/cancel
Cancels all pending scans of protected system files.
/quiet
Replaces all incorrect file versions without prompting the user.

I've had success in overcoming this error by running a repair on IE6.
This allowed me to add the user's toolbar back to the taskbar. This
was on a W2k machine.
*****
IE6 Repair (for Windows 2000)
Click Start/Run/
rundll32.exe setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance
When the dialog pops up, choose "Repair Internet Explorer".
Reboot PC.
*******
Log in, and right-click the taskbar, choose Toolbars/Quick Launch.
This seems to have worked for me. It appears that the original
problem was due to spyware/registry interaction. Hopefully this
helps. I tried all other suggestions from the postings here and at
Microsoft. The IE repair did the trick.
Regards,
Mike

I have this problem too. I tried running scannow but it's asking for the Windows
CD and my PC didn't come with one.
Any suggestions?

Did win2k come on the machine when you got it.???
If so try this.
See if you have a folder on the HD called I386 ?(i386)
If so check the Prop.on it and see how big the folder is.
If it's about 250mb+ you can try to redrect the popup to the i386 folder when you
run sfc /scannow command (this may work but I not tried it out)
Some computer companys put win2k cd files on the machine so you can install printers,drivers,etc...and
they don't need to give away a win2k cd with the machine..that will get lost anyway...

No it didn't. It's always been XP Home Edition.
I tried one of the suggestions above for reinstalling IE but after changing the reg
value and trying to reinstall it said that IE was not certified and would not install!
Gotta love Microsoft....

You know...I've been so desperate for a solution I didn't even notice this was a
win2k forum. LOL I spent agood 20 minutes Googling for a solution and the only other
one that may work is in a pay forum. I'll go poke around the XP forums :)

Mike - thank you!! this solution is what finally saved me after trying many other
things.
My quicklaunch toolbar now is appearing in the middle of my taskbar, however. I
really liked it on the left hand side.
Any ideas on how to move it back?
Thank you,
Elizabeth
