Question about 'Clear Unwanted Entries from Explorer's New Menu'

I can remove unwanted new programs from the list I get by right clicking on the desktop
and choosing "new", either by deleting from the registry "shellnew" items corresponding
to the file extensions associated with those programs, as described in the article,
or via the new tab of TweakUI.
However, when I actually run at least two of the programs, their "shellnew" lines
reappear, they reappear in the TweakUI new tab, and therefore of course they are
back in the list.
What am I missing?

Some programs (like Paint Shop Pro) are evil and will "fix" the registry whenever
it is launched. To prevent this, you can try using RegEdt32.exe to remove your permissions
on the ShellNew registry key.

Davedave,
Thank you, but Paint Shop Pro is not one of the offenders. They include Adaptec
Easy CD and its associated jewel case labeling program and an electronic circuit
capture program called DesignWorks, both from respectable sources. I'm afraid I
am not computer-savvy enough to know what you mean by removing permissions in the
registry. There are indeed entries in Shellnew for the offending programs, but as
I said before, if I delete them from Shellnew, they reappear as soon as I open one
of those programs. I assume that I need to leave the entries but change the long
string of alphanumerics following each entry.
