@#*! Pop-Ups...!!!

I hate Pop-Ups...!!! and so do you. My pop up blocker doesn't work anymore. Here's my idea. Have you ever noticed that most unwanted pop ups appear onscreen with the right side margin off the screen, I suppose that is a device by the pop-up gremlins to discourage us from dismissing them with the little "X" mark that's there... Kinda' like the infamous door to door salesman with his foot in the door...remember him...??? Anyway... Here's my thought: Can anybody figure out a way for my computer to disallow any pop up with its screen location set up that way...that would cut out a lot of cyber-garbage for me. Anyone...??? Please.

Maso
Well two things you can do..
The ones that popup on the right side of the page(s) are NOT true popups, they are
images that are with the web pages(s) like the one you will see on HotMail..and others..
You can download a small file called Toggle Images.exe and it will do just that,,
it runs under IE only..
and will be in the Links item at the top when you put the file in place...
It will turn OFF all images and I use it all the time, you will see the text items
but not the (popups/images anywhere on the web page)
It's a old file 30kb 9/29/1997 after you have downloaded the file put it in the
Favorites/Links folder then open IE and you will see it in the LINKS item at the
top menu in IE..
Note****this file will will work on all IE ver. and make your browser FLY because
you are not taking the time to load all the images and when you want to see them
just click on it and they will come up with a reload current page...
You can also download FireFox that has a good popup blocker with it but it still
can't stop the ones on the right that are with the web pages(s) but will block most
of them..
Hope this helps a bit with the dam popups

Happy New Year :>)

Maso
Just some help to find the file on the net plus more
------------------------------------------------
This is what it looks like when you have the file in place and running

http://www.csus.edu/saclink/faq/toggle.stm
-------------------------------------
Plus a spot to get the file see below

Installation Notes for IE5 Power Toys

Download the IE5wa.exe (web accessories) file from the Microsoft website http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/webaccess/default.asp.

Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder where IE5wa.exe was downloaded select
the file and press Enter you will be asked to confirm that you want to install and
when installation is complete another message appears.

Upon installation the QuickSearch and the Image Toggler utilities are installed as
.exe files and although they can be reached with the mouse are not accessible from
the keyboard (probably due to a bug in Explorer 5). To remedy this situation and
make these options available in the Favourites menu follow the procedure below;

Open Windows Explorer
Navigate to the following folder C:\windows\Favorites\Links
Copy the files Quick Search.exe and Toggle Images.exe
Paste the files in the folder C:\windows\Favorites.
Close Windows Explorer
Depending on how Internet Explorer 5 was set-up there is one change that makes the
Quick Search run better. Without this alteration IE5 will run its own searches which
do not have the same power.

Open Internet Explorer Press alt + T to go to the Tools Menu Press O to into Internet
Options Use control + tab until you get to the "Advanced" Property Sheet Press S
until you reach the "Search from the Address bar" section. Select the "Do not search
from the Address bar" radio button Tab to the OK button and press Enter to get back
to Internet Explorer.

------------------------------------------
Just a Note ****
Most spyware/virus programs are setup to see IE running and hook on to it.
If you run FireFox browser it will help and it comes with a popup blocker and you
can turn off Java/Javscripts

with one mouse click, and it's FREE
and you can stop the images from loading up with one click, and that's makes your
browser
run faster (your Internet connection faster) about 2 to 3 times faster..but not downloads..

I've made it a personal policy to refuse to do business with people who advertise
via pop-ups. If enough people will do this, the problem will go away. If it ain't
workin' they ain't gonna pay to do it.

And yes, they DO track results.

Attn: Dex. Ummm... Okay...but I still like to see all the other images that I look for on a web page. I'm thinking... couldn't a program be written that simply recognizes when an image ( you say it's not a true pop-up ) is oriented with it's right side margin off the screen to "ZAP" it for me...? That's basically what I'm trying to say. Any thoughts...??? anyone...?

Maso
Well you don't have the right to edit web pages on the net and NO program that I
know about will knock out just the popups on the right side because it's in the web
page layout...(url links)
the toggle image file will stop them and you can turn them back on with one click
of the mouse if you want to see them..
it's like You are trying to view TV with out adds, lots of luck and trying to boycot
the companys that do it would be hard also ,,,,with 10mil.on the net at one time.
(Wide Open InterNet) and I hope it stays that way..with out the feds./gov. taking
control of it.
I don't like the xxxx rated adds,, because will all have kids that don't need to
see that stuff, but it's wide open. and who to say what's right ...on the net..
Just my 2 cents.

Hi Maso, yes we all hate popups. I do not ever recall clicking on one to find out more about it except to right click it and add it to my hosts file. DEX will hate this but NPF 2003 + a huge hosts file will stop 99.9% of popups. Embedded ads show up as "Action Cancelled". Ctrl+click will disable block for the link you click.
