Norton Antivirus crashes Win 2000?

I have a question about Help!
My application doesn't work with or crashes Windows (Norton Antivirus) :
Hey. I use a 366 Mhz PII Win 2000 SP4 notebook. I tried to install norton antivirus
but the system collapses. Upon start it won't boot but say ntldr is missing unless
the norton cd is in the drive. So I removed the program again but the system doesn't
seem to have recovered and now collapses when I enter IE (6.0)... Any good hints
how to fix that?

Sorry I cant give you a solution, but I can tell you that Norton totally screws with
files in your system, and if you uninstall it, it rips out its overwritten files
(suchas the NTLdr, and even some services, thats probably your IE problem) Do a search
on yahoo/google for Norton (your version) + "Windows 2000" + crashes, or something
along those lines

First, you will have to remove from registry any references to Norton. Visit Symantec's
web site and look for instructions for manual uninstall.
Next, boot from the win2k cd and perform a repair. You wil have to reinstall later
security updates from Microsoft.
Instead of using Norton, download AVG 7.0 free edition from grisoft
www.grisoft.com
It works better than Norton, and it doesn't try to take over your system.
Finaly, unless you must use IE, Firefox or Mozilla www.mozilla.org
(this one also has a mail client better than Outlook Express) are a better choice,
being more secure and less of a target for virus attacks.

Symantec has a utility called SymClean.exe that is supposed to remove NAV safely
and leave your system clean. It can be downloaded from the Symantec website
