Disk I/O Error: Status 00000400

Hello,
I've been running two hard drives with Server 2000 with no problem. Today I boot
up and my 2nd drive wont open because of the Disk I/O Error: Status 00000400. I can
see the drive recognized in Bios but cant get to the drive through DOS or other hard
drive. Tried restarting with installation disk but just keep getting the same error
message. Any thoughts besides a new harddrive?

The drive manufacturer should have a diagnostic utility on their website. Run that
on the drive. Chances are it's failed and any data will have to be recovered by
a professional lab, if you have that much money to spend. :-(

Just to add to what CK said
Steve
This is a hard one to pin down.
The error call 00000400 is only part of what you need to run it down. (not the ram
address just the error numbers)
It should have 3 or 4 sets of error numbers.
Try this, go into Control Panel/Admin.Tools/Event item and try find all the numbers
you need.
But as you know a I/O error is a bad block or a bad HD.
If the BIOS sees the HD in place and the OS can't read it.
You can download software that can reovery the data files if the HD spins up to speed.
Or send it out to have the data recovered but it's not cheap so it looks like the
best way to go is replace the HD and just live with it.
Good Luck
