Compairing windows 2000 to xp.

I've recently purchased a used Dell tower with windows 2000 as an operating system.
I am a windows xp pro user and have no idea if windows 2000 would be worth keeping
as an operating system.
Any insite would be appreciated.

Well it's a free OS and unlike XP would be if you replace the win2k with the XP Pro.OS
,that will save you 189.oo bucks plus it's almost the same as XP but on security
stroids.

XP is 2k upgraded. Very similar o/s - XP has different look and feel (though can
be made to look like 2k), and being newer will be supported a bit longer and has
support for more stuff. XP uses more resources to run than 2k (so older machines
better with 2k) - but both need a fair bit of memory (RAM) to run well - 256MB IMO.
XP - especially after SP2 - has better security.

You can upgrade Win2K logon dialog up to WinXP style if you liked welcome screen
in XP with user icons.
