Repair install, Win2k Setup can't restart

Win2kpro can't start (.........\Drivers\ntfs.sys error ) so tried a repair install. Insatlled win2k into a new folder named WINNT.alt. Afterwards I installed the OS to a different folder named WINNT2. Boot to OS CD. Accept EULA (F8), select R (repair). Windows deleted files and then copied files. System rebooted, got windows 2000 GUI, with message at bottom saying 'Windows 2000 is starting up'. Black console screen then appears with message at top saying 'Setup is being restarted........ ' OS CD spin then stop. Got greyish console screen which stayed on and setup didn't restart. Rebooted, went to win2k setup, repair console, and did chkdsk /r. Restarted and got same result. The hdd has two Windows folders WINNT and WINNT2. The 1st has a lot of folders and files like a normal system. WINN2 has only 2 folders, system and system32. system is empty, system32 has folders config, drivers, os2, ras and spool. os2 has a dll folder which is empty, spool has a drivers folder which is empty. The other system32 folders are empty. Should I delete WINNT2? I don't see the WINNT.alt folder that was created. Why can't Win2k Setup restart?

"1st. go back and undo what you have done so far......" : Does this mean that I should delete the WINNT2 folder?///// "When you run into this type of error the "r" command will not repair the system,,,,, Try it one one time and this time select the 1st item listed SETUP ,windows will ask you if yo want to try and repair the OS you now have select YES windows will rebuild the system files so it can boot." : Is this what I should do? -> Boot from win2k OS cd./ Wait till win2k Setup loads./ Choose 1st option - "To setup windows 2000 now, press ENTER"/ Press F8 to ascept win2k EULA/ Choose 1st option - " To repair the selected Windows 2000 installation, press R"

Deleted WINNT2 folder. At win2k Setup files started copying to win folder. Then got message: - Setup cannot copy the file: dx7vb.dll . To retry, press ENTER If you are installing from a CD, make sure the windows 2000 CD is in the CD-ROM drive . To skip this file, press ESC / caution: If you skip this file Setup may not complete and windows 2000 may not work properly . To quit Setup, PressF3 - I pressed ENTER and retried. Setup copied files successfully. PC rebooted, got win2k 'Starting up' screen with win GUI. At end of this screen a black console screen with win2k gui at the top and words " Setup is being restarted" appeared. After some seconds I got a very pale blue Windows screen instead of the sky blue one. There was no information on the screen and it just stayed there. Had to restart the machine.
