i don't know the password!

i purchased a computer from a thrift store.
it came on and showed good on the monitor screen,
but there is a password screen the must have a password to go any farther. How do
I bypass a password.?
Its windows 2000 professional.
please tell me that there is something i can do. I'm a homeschool mom and the computer
looks great. I need it for the education of my children.

Usually if you click 'ok' when it asks for a password it will move on to the next
stage, however, if you just bought it, it will have the software to enable you to
get it up and running. I would seek the help of someone knowledgeable to set it
up for you. Good luck.
