Anyone know of free W P software better than Wordpad but lighter than OpenOffice for an old low power PC?

You can find lots of cheap copies of Office 97 or 2000 at many auction sites. I've seen O2K Premium for $30. If Word is all you want, just install that component. A full istallation of 02K is only about 280 MB so I doubt if Word alone is more than 50-75 MB.

Get Cryptedit by Polysoft. Version 4.1 is a nice piece of freeware. I used to use it. It exactly fits your description of something in between Wordpad and a heavyweight word processor. About 1 MB.
