Dim screen..

My boss was cleaning out the storage room yesterday and he brought me a laptop and said if I could make it work I could have it. So, I figure why not? It's got Windows 2000 Professional, it's a Sony Vaio PCG-GRS100k. The problem is, you can see the screen unless you lay it pretty much all the way back under a light. I've turned up the brightness as far as possible and it's still pretty unreadable. I've hooked up an external monitor to it, so I'm guessing it's not the video card? The only thing I can figure is the backlight or inverter. I wouldn't mind replacing them, but I'm not totally sure if that's the problem, or where I can even buy new ones. Any ideas? Thanks. -Jordan

I'm betting the back light. You can find them online by using Google. You can probably
find a disassembly guide for the Laptop the same way.

I've looked everywhere on line I could think of but I couldn't find anything, I guess because it's older? I already took it apart though.. it's laying on the dresser, this is what happens when I get bored. Will any back light work if I just splice it in, or does it have to be made for it?

Then take it to a Repair Shop. They will have more resources. This is a Windows Forum.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day.
Teach a man to fish and he will eat for the rest of his life.
-- Chinese proverb --

This is a real long shot Did you have the power supply plug in or just using the battery, some laptop are dim if they are using a old battery only...
