New W2k dies

Mis-posted this, try again: For Dell 600Mhz Optiplex, 128RAM. Clean loaded
W2k. then added presaved & scanned ZA ,AVG, Adaware. Then B/B modem to update.
Ran IE6 and SP4.
ZA blocked 15 times and Adaware picked up 28 items.
Then loaded pre-saved DirectX, Adobe and Ooffice.
On auto W2k update. At initial load, the system was very responsive to mouse action
and pages opened quickly. After completion, have to count to 40 to see a page, using
RH click –Open
Sometimes improves slightly, the longer it is on.
Does the loading kill the machine or are these obscure bug problems again?
Nothing in HiJack.
Are unobserved (nothing in Task Manager) updates saturating it?
Don’t seem to see CPU solid @ 100%
What have I missed?

Your specs are killing you. I have an old machine with AMD 550 and 512 meg of RAM
that isn't much better. Also found that the new Adobe and especially Open Office
were killers and had to remove them. Just totally bogged the machine down. On my
systems, Open Office had some definate bugs. IE6 takes a lot more RAM and horsepower,
as do most newer apps today. More RAM would help, but the processor speed is a big
problem here also, as would be the slower buss and memory speed as compared to new
systems today....
If there are some problems, they may show up in the Event Viewer so check there for
anything obvious for starters...

Turning off unneeded services may help. The link below will show you which ones.
