Network has stopped functioning

My home wired network consisting of several computers has stopped working. I recently added a new laptop to the mix and when the wireless internet connection wasn't working I was instructed by HP to re-install the Win XP OS. That didn't help so Verizon had me install a software upgrade to the Westell Versalink modem router. That solved the wireless problem but now the LAN does not function. All of the wired computers can access the internet through this modem but my "OFFICE" network is inaccessible. I've checked out everything I can think of but no go. Ipconfig shows OK. The LAN status on the Westell shows some of the computers active and some inactive. Help, please!

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day.
Teach a man to fish and he will eat for the rest of his life.

It sounds like when you re-install the Win XP OS it redid all your setting and drivers now you will need to start over and put the drivers back into place.. The reg.file runs the machine and when you reinstall OS it will replace the one that's in place with a new one.. IF you are running XP you can use the RESTORE Wizard and it get all your setting back to the date you want to use.

NOTE***It's along shot with the Restore Wizard because your did reinstall, it will sometimes start over from sq.1 removing the old restore file(s)

The problem is at the server running W2000. Even if the laptop is not connected, the network is still inaccessible. The other computers can't communicate, except for one that can print through it. All the computers see the network drive which goes through a switch connected to the router. But they cannot access each others' drives and files. Very vexing.

It's weird but the problem turned out to be the fact that I did not uninstall a version of Norton Antivirus on the laptop before installing Norton System Works. What's really weird is that the problems persisted on the network even with the laptop turned off. Once I uninstalled the Norton Antivirus, everything returned to normal functionality.
