USB mouse not responding

HI,

I am using windows 2000. It has been working fine till recently but suddenly a weird
problem has started happening from last 1-2 weeks. This is hampering my work a lot.
Please help.

I use USB mouse. While working every few minutes my USB mouse stops responding for
few seconds and whenever this happens i see a small icon for a new USB hardware detection
on system tray at right bottom corner. This icon comes for 1-2 seconds and goes off
and then mouse starts working. It looks as if USB mouse driver stops working for
few seconds and suddenly its detected afresh by my computer and then it starts working.

And many times even this doesn't happen and my mouse totally stops responding. And
then i am left with no other means but to remove and reinsert my mouse into USB.

Please help me this problem is driving me crazy. This has happened suddenly. I don't
want to reinstall my whole OS again.

regards,
-nitin

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day.
Teach a man to fish and he will eat for the rest of his life.
-- Chinese proverb --

The norm is the mouse is going bad or to say it's not the right type for your PC.. I have a Laptop top that takes out mice left and right, the wireless type ,,, it over loads them with power from the USB port and wipes out the hardware in the mouse.. The other type I use is the non ball type and it wipes them out from time to time , the ones that last the longest are the ball type but than they pickup junk off the pad...all the time...so the bottom line is pickup a mouse or two and keep them on hand.... ===========
