The first message says it all! Either your hard drive has died, or become disconnected
or its controller has died. So bios can't detect it - so obviously no system.
Are you able to get into the bios settings to check stuff out? (and to set boot order
to CD first, so your 2k install disk will boot).
Probably worth finding the hard drive under one of removable covers on back, disconnected
and reconnecting it - but suspect you may need a new drive/install if you want to
rescue this machine.

I am unsure of how to get to hard drive. On the back are two removeable covers.
The first lets me into memory slots, the second I do not know what it is but there
is a metal tab and something covered in yellow(?) clear covering.

Didn't see your post from the 10th. You said you managed to do a clean install! Which
obviously meant the hard drive was present. If it really was a clean install (ie,
you either formatted the drive or removed and created partition during the install
process), then if errors during or shortly after that, suggests a hardware problem
of some sort. But you didn't sound convinced it was a clean install!
If the hard drive is not accessible through cover on the back, it may be via a slot
in the side or under the keyboard on the front. Can you find any information online
about your thinkpad model? (google it). Hard drive should be rectangular, c. 2.5x3.5
inches, probably silver, and probably with information about it printed on.

same start up message and have seen them on Ebay pretty cheap. This week needed
this to be working as sons pc was getting fixed and so he was stuck! aahhh!!
