ntoskrnl.exe is ruining my life....

So I finally get my password cracked (thanks to you guys) and my computer is up for
all of about 3 days when I get an ntoskrnl.exe error which is preventing my computer
from booting. I've tried the recovery console (using the expand d:\i386\ntoskrnl.ex_
c:\winnt\system32) but keep getting the "Access Denied" message. I then tried to
do the set AllowAllPaths = true to get around this but it tells me that the "set"
command is disabled.
I'm DESPERATE -- I've been without my computer for about 2 1/2 weeks now. Is there
ANYTHING else I can do?
Thanks in advance everyone --
P.S. - I don't have a floppy drive...I can get one if it's absolutely necessary,
but I'd kinda like to avoid it if possible.

Safe mode and scan with all your might... that's the first step. ntoskrnl.exe is
required by windows for several apps. but it can also become corrupted by a virus.
See if that fixes the problem first, if not, then have the cd at the ready, but
with win2k, I think you'll need that old floppy drive.

I can't even make it into safemode TO scan...the error occurs before I even make
it to that point. I can boot from the Win2K disk and get to teh recovery console,
but, like I said earlier, I get the "Access Denied" error when I try to expand the
file I need.
Since there's no way to boot into Windows (Safemode or Otherwise) Is there ANY way
to get around the "Access Denied" error?

May be time for a Repair install as outlined here.
You will need your Windows 2000 CD for this. No floppy is required as the Windows
2000 CD is bootable. You'll need to set your CDROM as the first boot device in your
BIOS.

Recovery Console = http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307654/en-us
c:\winnt\system32 should be accessible. Use the ATTRIBute command to unlock the file.
ATTRIB -r-s-h c:\winnt\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

hi, i came across the same issue when trying to upgrade my comp to xp. in order to
fix the problem i ran installation package through my cd drive. you can google how
to install windows, and how to change main bios to cd drive.
here's what i did.
ran installation through cd drive.
deleted all partions, or installation on hard drives(make sure you format first drive
first)
then powered down computer and disconnected the motherboards battery.
hit the power button while device was still unplugged
put battery back in , powered back up reinstalled windows
and poof, my bios clock is not set, but my computer is working which is good enough
for me.
