Corrupted files from improper reboot or virus?

Not sure if I've got a virus or some files have become corrupted. After a session of heavy browsing (and clicking on some links that I really shouldn't have) this evening I started experiencing some problems with not being able to scroll properly with the mouse wheel and programs refusing to minimize to the task bar as they normally would. I decided it was time to run AVG and when I clicked on the icon, about 30 other programs tried to all start up at once. Things were taking forever, so I decided to hit the reset button.

On restart, the black checkdisk screen appeared saying that checkdisk had been cancelled when normally it would automatically check the disks for consistency. I then got a pop up box saying that a key had been pressed "x" (6 I think) number of times and doing such would enable the keyboard with special features for persons with disabilities. (I don't remember the exact message). I then tried to logon with the usual password but the system wouldn't let me. There was also three very strange short whistle-like beeps prior to the message box appearing. After about 3 restarts, the system finally let me back in. I've run AVG and it hasn't detected anything. I have one other computer in my household that is going to the repair shop tomorrow because it completely blacked out. I was wondering if I should take this one along with it?
