execute an illegal instruction after loading game

Hi,
I recently gave my son an old gateway, it was completely wiped and windows 2000 pro
installed. He loaded up a 2001 EA game (American McGee's Alice), which ran perfectly
for me in the past on an even older gateway.
Anytime he tries to run the game he gets this;
"The exception illegal instruction an attempt was made to execute an illegal instruction
(0xc00000ld) occured in the application at location 0x03dc096f"
I've tried googling the solution, but no luck :(
Any ideas appreciated

Were the Service Packs for Windows 2000 installed? There were six, and I believe
one of the early ones corrected the problem you describe.
If you have all the SPs installed and this still appears, you may be out of luck.
In the computer age, 2001 is a lifetime away and finding support may be a challenge.
Keep trying to Google it, maybe someone else has experienced this particular error
with this particular game.

Thanx for your help, I thought it was a bit of a long shot, I'll check re the service
packs but it's not a big deal if I don't get it sorted, the pc is working fine otherwise

Correction: there were four SPs issued and they are still available on the Microsoft
site. MS ended support for W2K in 2005 so there won't be any further releases after
that date.
Good luck!
