Task Manager damaged or corrupt

I recently revived a Win2K computer. I did a bunch of stuff, including changing
the two drive filesystems to NTFS. I also deleted old, corrupt operating systems
on one drive, since I now have a working OS on the other drive.

I discovered, however, that when I bring up Task Manager (ctrl-alt-del), only the
processes list appears--no tabs, no buttons, no menu. I would be unable to terminate
an application as such, because there is no applications tab; and I would be unable
to reboot from the task manager because there is no button or menu item for this.
It is possible to delete a process.

Can someone tell me how to reconstitute a full-capability Task Manager. I have rebooted
since I first noted this problem, and it is still with me.

Thank you,

Jan

Hi Jan Now that you have it back download and install Service Control it will give you tons of info about what and why items are running.. Service Controller XP 2.2.61 it's free stuff Service Controller XP is a handy interface that allows you to control your Windows (NT/2000/XP) services. You can instantly see which ones are running and view detailed information about all the standard Windows services. In addition, the program provides information that lets you decide whether to enable or disable a service. It prevents you from accidentally disabling critical operating system services and suggest whether to disable a service or not based on the use of your computer (e.g. Default, Gaming, Internet Gateway etc.) http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4313.html Plus read this web page Besure to click on ea. item it will tell you all about what it's for and sometimews how much ram it pulls. http://www.blackviper.com/WIN2K/servicecfg.htm OR http://web.archive.org/web/20040210040410/www.blackviper.com/WIN2K/servicecfg.htm

I downloaded the utility and you are right, it is far clearer than trying to look
a the files with the Microsoft tools. It is also easier to make changes. I think
that this corresponds to Services.

I am also cleaning up the registry on the XP laptop and I will do it on the W2K machine.
 I am using Baku.
