Freeze on thumbdrive plug in

A computer I'm working on for a friend will freeze once in a while when a thumb drive
is plugged into a USB port. The installation of Windows 2000 is new, done by the
place he bought the computer from. It has SP4.
When I plug the thumb drive in after booting the computer, it works fine. I stop
it and remove it, then wait for a while, plug it back in, and the computer will (at
least appear to) freeze. I have to restart it with the power button.
What causes this? What can I do to stop it / fix it? I'd be happy to provide any
more info that you need.

You should have a icon down by the time,, it will let you dismount the USB device

Heh, thanks. When I use that, I don't have those problems.
