Computer mobo is gigabyte GA-M51GM-S2G
Bios is Award Modular Bios v6.00

Took out hdd from a junk computer, set as pri master
bios detected hdd on boot got message :

"ntldr is missing ..."

set as pri slave to win xp pro sp2, hdd detected both by bios and XP as drive E:,
could browse all files therein, which indicated OS is W2K.

In cmd prompt :
attrib -shr boot.ini; ntldr & NTDETECT.COM
deleted all 3 files
created new boot.ini & copied to hdd ntldr and NTDETECT.COM from a w2k Pro cd.

 In cmd prompt :
attrib +shr boot.ini, ntldr & NTDETECT.COM

try to boot, message :

"disk boot failure, insert system disk ..."

try repair option from w2k pro cd, hdd not detected by system.

Please advise further action.

Thank you, Regards

You can't take one HD from one PC and drop it into a new PC ,,,and hope it will boot up,,if it's running win2k on the HD.. The ntldr holds the info for the machine that it was in.. You can reboot with the win2k cd and run the repair and the ntldr file will scan your hardware and set it up for the new PC.. Or you can just clean off the HD and just reinstall the OS aging with the win2k CD... =======
