I bought an old compaq laptop for parts, it came with win2kpro installed.. Can someone explain to me how to find out, if possible, what programs are starting up, I want to cut some out if possible.. I installed msconfig.exe from win xp, in the startup tab only mobsync.exe/logon and powerreg scheduler show. In the registry under the run folder, only powerreg scheduler is shown. What is this?? I do find various programs in the startup and start folders, system tool , accessories, and such like that. I'm used to Win 98 where in the startup tab in msconfig, you can what's going on. Clicking start, programs, startup, only shows powerreg. I'm not familiar at all with 2k pro, seems to be mostly network-oriented??? Thanks for answers, Mark

Sounds like a machine that was used in a business or in a corporation environment.
If it was, it has been customized and secured so actually helping from a forum would
be about impossible, plus you really need to have a W2K install disk to repair/restore
anyway.

There are other utilities available but since I use Ccleaner on many machines, it
has a tab where you can see what is starting up and you can enable or disable items
in it. Works similar to what is in Win 9X and XP. If it doesn't show much, then
you need to dump the install and put your own operating system on it if you want,
or just tear it apart for parts and don't worry about trying to figure it out.
