Please help me to change'read only' protection, so I can save onto USB stick: When I tried to 'save' a document in Word 2000 onto a USB stick , the program tells me that the document is 'read only' and it won't save it onto that device. I went to 'help' and followed those limited instructions, but still does not work.

Many files in Word are read only,, you didn't say what the file name is,,,,,is it by chance a dot file ? Some doc files have a pass word or a protection tag and you can only copy them in safe mode..windows may be using the file at the time you are trying to copy them over. Try this make a new folder and copy the files over in safemode, then remove the tags then copy them to your usb device after you restart the machine.. === ====
