Can BOOT.INI load a DOS partition?

I was thinking of chreating a small DOS partition on my hard drive. Or maybe using a small secondary drive for an older version of DOS. There are some things I would like to try, but not on my Windows 2000 system!
So, the question is this. How do I tell the BOOT.INI to load the DOS partition as an option in the OS menu? I recall that with Windows 98 it was just
C:\WINDOWS
or something like that. Could that work also for DOS?

Thanks DEX.
Both products are impressive. I can understand that want a small fee for the product. But right now I a bad time for use to make more purchases. ust upgraded to a refurbished Dell computer, which the fist time I have have a factory built PC in about sis years.
One of the issues with boot managers is if they follow the Microsoft standers for how the MBR is now defined. I have notices that after using some other OS and I want to repair Windows 2000, I get a message that the MBR appears to be non-standard. This makes me thing there is something that other boot managers do the differs from Microsoft. In the past I have got into a case where I could not boot up my system except with the help of the third-party utility to fix whatsoever it did to the MBR. I believe it was the Norton Part ion Magic that did that to me. So I am reluctant to use a third-party manager unless it is really good. But then it would cost. Thanks anyway.

The biggest problem you have is that (true, 6.2 and lower) DOS needs a FAT16 partition.
It might need to be the primary partition also.

Create a FAT16 partition and boot from a floppy to determine if you can see it. Once
you get the floppy to recognize a partition, continue to boot from a floppy for access
to DOS and SHELL out the command processor in the Config.sys file:

SHELL=d:\DOS\DOS6\COMMAND.COM D:\DOS\DOS6 /P
