boot problems

My pc has become problamatic over the last week or so, difficulty booting up and slow to shut down. Now it will not boot at all. I have a partioned HD and get a choice of boot systems (both W2000), sometimes it will not highlight the selection (i.e. down arrow does nothing). If I get past that then it just stops loading on the W2000 "title" page. It is kept well protected and always checks out threat free. Any ideas? Thanks, Paul

Start troubleshooting by checking the Event Viewer for errors and issues, especially
with the HDD having some problems. It sounds like you may have a corrupt drive,
or one that is going bad. That would be the first thing I would check for.

It is almost certainly hardware. The hard drive or heat (check the fans) would be
the first suspects.
Boot from floppy/cd and try some copy operations (not to the hd) to check for heat
problems (after a visual inspection).
After that, look at the memory.

do this quick test,,unplug your HD and pop in a spare HD with DOS on it only and that's all,,, if it boots the normal way you found the error,,,if not it's hardware on the board/machine.. ==========
