Question about 'Top five reasons why Windows doesn't support your hardware '

I have a proprietary application that is required to run on W2k by law. I recently replaced some aging laptops with new ones. Now I cannot get audio to work. I get an error that no audio mixer is available. I have tried mfg. sites for a w2k driver but no luck and the latest xp driver wont install on w2k. I rolled back the driver to about 4 versions back but now I dont even have a speaker icon in sys tray. Any ideas?

Could not get sound to work on a Vista Laptop that was upgraded to XP. Tried one of the USB sound cards that are available and it worked fine. Though not a good solution if the Laptop is on the road a lot.

Post the laptop make and model number if you have not found a solution. Basically,
you need to complete two steps:

1. Identify the audio chipset.
2. Search using "win 2000 drivers for audio chipset".

It is almost certain that someone has found a driver that works.
