xp & win 2000 on same computer. want to remove 2000--how?

Hi: I loaded XP pro (2002) edition on top of win 2000 pro. (I thought XP pro would replace win 2000, but I am left with both.) I want to remove win 2000 pro and never see or hear from it again. Is there an easy way to do that? Thanks in advance for your help. bob

Depends on how it was installed.. Did it install to the same drive/partition or
logical drive that W2K was installed on? I am assuming you are using IE6 for your
browser? If IE5 then it is a little more complicated if I remember correctly. Maybe
not.. Look for a Documents and Settings folder. If you have one, then it is a simple
matter of deleting the Windows folder that W2K was installed into and editing the
boot.ini to delete the entry that points to the W2K Windows folder. Do NOT delete
anything else on the C drive. Do NOT delete the Docs and Settings folder.. Xp uses
that also. Your boot files are on the C drive so don't delete any if you aren't
sure what they are. They (boot files) are needed to boot XP as well as W2K.

You will probably be left with junk you won't need, so I would usually advise to
reformat the drive to get rid of everything and start over and install XP clean.
Some flavors of XP will not upgrade an older operating system, including W2K..

Wow! Thank you for your prompt and detailed reply. I am not sure I understand all of it, so please permit me one more question. What does this mean "and editing the boot.ini to delete the entry that points to the W2K Windows folder."? Where do I find the boot.ini to make the deletion you are talking about? Sorry for being so thiick. Thanks again.

Quck follow-up question. I removed win 2000 from my start-up menu. I now go directly to XP pro. Can I still perform the functions you mentioned? Thanks, bob.

I would be happy with the way things are.. Unless you are running out of disk space
I would not worry about the Windows 2000 partition or folders...
