I tried the Recovery Console too but no luck. I have decided not to update my systems because this is becoming a real pain in the ass and have reinstalled the OS numerous times. I've spent hours trying to figure out what caused it but have come up with no conclusion. I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't addressed the issue but then again its Microsoft :).
