Here's my scenario: Ive been running Windows 2003 server for about a month (fresh
install, new box, no upgrade from previous OS.) From day 1, it was designated as
a Domain Controller. I have a router that does duty as the DHCP service. The server
Does have a static IP Address though. I set up roles as Active Directory and as a
file server.
I can access the server in its role as a File Server fine... I've loaded about 170
GB in the last week.
NOW-- I want to join an XP Pro machine to this Domain. When I do so, I get:
"The specified server cannot perform the requested operation". I'm an Administrator
on the XP Pro machine. I go to the Control Panel, Computer Name tab, click "change",
change the radio button from Workgroup to "Domain" enter in the name of the Domain,
enter the admin account/password when prompted, Click "Apply". Wait a minute or
two then I get: "The specified server cannot perform the requested operation"
A co-worker suggested running "ipconfig /flushdns" followed by "ipconfig /registerdns"
on both the server and the XP Pro client.... no difference noted.
What am I overlooking? I'm going crazy!
