Hi there, I am having the same problem with a Windows 2000 server, and have been
pulling my hair out for days.
Another wrinkle is:
If I change the name of the computer while resetting the domain from workgroup, I
get welcome to the DCS domain,
then this
The following error occurred attempting to change the computer name to "dcs-billd54f891":(The
domain "DCS" was joined under the old computer name "dcs-d54f891bill")
then this
The specified server cannot perform the requested operation.
then this
You must restart this computer for the name change to take effect.
if you try to logon to the domain:
Windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the domain controller is down
or otherwise unavailable, or because your computer account was not found. Please
try again later. If this message continues to appear, contact your system administrator
for assistance.
The other thing I noticed, looking in ADUC, is that the dcs-billd... above is lacking
a DNS name in the properties, otherwise all seems normal...
I'm about to be canned here...
Thanks,
Dave
