VPN Server/client Software instead of MS VPN? VPN Help!

I have a client who uses vpn to access a remote office and the vpn kicks them offline, usually when large files are being transferred (around 400mb or so). They both use full T1 lines and then internet never drops off. Can this be an issues of MS Vpn client software being unstable or the Linksys (non vpn) Router dropping the transfer due to heavy traffic? If I upgrade the router to a VPN router, can this fix the drops? Should I just upgrade the vpn software/client software to something that might work better? Thanks! (running server 2003 with all patches and xp pro sys.)
