I would try a name you're positive can't be used in your network. If the same thing happens (ie: dupename) then you need to start troubleshooting that particular PC. If it doesn't, then you've hit two names already in use.

If it turns out to be the latter, may I suggest a central store of all names in use in your network. Good documentation is very useful.
