Actually, there's nothing wrong with renaming the administrator account. It's
just one more security measure. Everyone knows the default admin account in Windows
is "administrator". Renaming that account will prevent brute force password crack
attempts on that account. In fact, in the NT 4.0 and earlier days, the default password
for the Administrator account was "admin". Something else everyone knew. At least
with 2000, MS finally got rid of that default password (not a great idea). Having
said that, I agree this person messed something up if the local admin account can't
make any changes. I sure hope this is a test environment so you can reinstall and
start over.
