I am running a domain with about 350 users and 2 domain controllers. I have recently 
noticed a large amount of users having problems with loading their roaming profiles 
when logging on (instead it rebuilds their profile). Servers are running Windows 
2003 server and workstations are running XP Pro.

Here is the background information on the problem. Prior to the problems of loading 
profiles, there was an error message that popped up seemingly random while the user 
was logged on; "{Delayed Write Failed} Windows was unable to save all the data for 
the file \Device\LanmanRedirector. The data has been lost. This error may be caused 
by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save 
this file elsewhere." and occasionally while logging off, it came up as well. As 
time went on, it became more common. While this one included the correct path to 
the users profile on the server, another error came up after the first one that was 
the same but had an incorrect file path to the roaming profile. (Instead of \\"server"\Profiles\"user"\"file.tmp" 
it had \"user"\"file.tmp") Also when logging on when the profile does not load, an 
error comes up about recovering the registery successfully. Some profiles do not 
have this problem. Profiles that do not load correctly, sometimes load correctly. 
When it rebuilds their profile, and after everything is done, I can refresh the desktop 
and all their desktop items are back. It is like it can't read the profile upon logon 
but it can later.

Things I have done to attempt to fix the problem include checking the file permissions 
on their profile on the server. In the past when similar problems came up, usually 
they did not have permissions to their own profile. I have deleted local copies of 
users profiles on the computers and it had no effect.

I am not sure if this is related but recently I had a problem with Active Directory 
replication between servers that is now corrected. Also in Event Viewer in the local 
computers, along with the Delayed Write Failed event, is an event from the same source, 
MRxSmb, that reads "The redirector failed to determine the connection type."
