Hi,
This can be a very stressful experience preparing for the migration - but follow
these steps and you should have no trouble.
Make sure your Sever 2000 Domain controllers are running at least service pack 4.
Have your 2003 server join your domain but only as a member server(do not run dcpromo
or install active directory)
Copy the files from your Server 2003 CDs I386 file.
If you are using 2003 R2 then you must first copy the I386 folder from Disc 1
onto a local drive. Then you will need to insert disc 2 and find a folder named ADPREP.
Copy the ADPREP folder into the I386 folder that you just added to a local drive.
Now you will be using version 31 which is the correct version.
At this point
* Run the following steps with minimal activity on the server.
Open a command prompt and switch to that I386 directory.
Type:
adprep /forestprep
It will prompt you to press C then ENTER to continue.
Let this run. This should take 5-15 minutes.
You'll see several "command completed successfully" messages along with dots going
across the screen.
Next,type"
adprep /domainprep
Next you will run DCPROMO and promote your 2003 server from a member server to a
domain controller.
please let me know if you're successfully migrated and make the 03 as the DC.
Cheers,
A.W.T
