re: domain controller could not be contacted Sunday, September 28, 2008 at 8:32 pm Windows Server 2003 Annoyances Discussion Forum Posted by DjJeffRush (8 messages posted) ok, I did the nslookup server607.com, and got this: C:\>nslookup server607.com *** Can't find server name *** Default servers are no Server: UnKnown Address: 192.168.2.10 Name: server607.com Address: 192.168.2.10 so it knows the IP, just not the server name. what's actually going on is that I get to the point of where it looks like AD will start installing, then after 3 seconds, it errors out with a popup saying: Active Directory Installation Failed The operation failed because: A domain controller could not be contacted for the domain server607.com that contained an account for the computer. Make the computer a member of a workgroup then rejoin the domain before retrying the promotion. "The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted" hmm.. I've already tried the unjoining and rejoining of the domain.
