Sounds like a dns server configuration issue.  Generally, when you have more than one domain each with its own DNS servers, the easiest way to resolve host names in both domains is to configure conditional forwarding on both Dns infrastructures.

Since you can ping by IP, but not by name, its clearly a name resolution issue.  It has nothing to do with trusts.  trusts are used only for providing access to resources.
