help a windows 2003 user

I have a pc on which win 98 is installed.It is a p3 866mhz ,128 RAM,60 GB HDD system.Now i want to install windows 2000pro or XP or win 2003 server , but can't install. Following errors occured:- when i inserted any of these os cd , it gives message " press any key to boot from cd". After pressing any key, the installation starts, but within 2 or three secends system hangs.Sometimes the windows files starts loading from cd, but again after some moments the system hangs.I changed the os cd, i tried a new cd drive, changed my RAM , even tried on a new hard disk but all efforts goes in vain. Plz anyone help me. Any reply will be greatly appreciated.

I am pretty sure that you do not have enough RAM to install W2000 or W2003. You may want to check the requirements for those OS. Depending what you are going to use the machine for, I would recommend using XP and not W2003. W2003 is geared for enterprise servers and not desktops or laptops.

I'm in agreement. The idea of using a Server OS in a non-server environment doesn't
make much sence.

Windows 2000 Requirements
* 350 MHz or higher Pentium-compatible CPU.
*96 to 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM recommended minimum; more memory generally improves
responsiveness.
*4GB hard disk with a minimum of 1GB of free space.

Windows XP Requirements
*233 MHz CPU
*64 MB of RAM (may limit performance and some features)
*1.5 GB of available hard disk space *
