DNS server IP address

OK, I need help with this DNS thing. All I want to do is setup a primary DNS server on my Compaq Proliant ML370 G2 server machine which is running Windows 2003. I then want to configure my Desktop machine to go through this DNS server on the ML370. My TCP/IP settings are as follows: Use the following IP address: IP address: 10.1.1.8 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Default gateway: 10.1.1.1 Use the following DNS server address: Preferred DNS server: 127.0.0.1 I have read on the internet that you want the ‘Preferred DNS server’ IP to be 127.0.0.1 as you wan the primary DNS server to update its own zone, not another server. My questions are as follows: 1.) Should my ‘Preferred DNS server’ IP address be set to 127.0.0.1? Why or why not? 2.) If my ‘Preferred DNS server’ IP address should not be 127.0.0.1, then what should it be? Do I just make the IP address up (e.g. 10.1.1.9) or is it supposed to be something definite? If it is supposed to be something definite, how do I know what it is and/or where to find it? 3.) For my Desktop computer; what IP address do I enter for the ‘Preferred DNS server’ IP? Is it the IP of the ML370, i.e. 10.1.1.8? Or, would it be the IP address of the actual DNS server? If someone could answer these questions, it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance,

I just realized that ‘Curt R’ had answered these questions in one of my posts the other day. Sorry for the mix up. I have posted these answers on several forums and Curt R is the only person that gave me a decent answer. So thanks Curt R for that. 
