Rights problem

I have an Windows 2003 DC with a bunch of clients. Several clients use the same domain user login. A "desktop" client (XPProSP2) runs a certain application just fine. A "tablet" PC (XP Tablet SP2) won't run as "user" but will run as "administrator". I've set full access for the user for the C drive, and have allowed the user to install drivers (the application involves a USB device). The vendor is puzzled and "will get back to me" (45 days, so far). As a last resort, I added "Administrators" into the "Member of" tab in the Active Directory Users and Computers panel for the user in question, and it still doesn't work. The user can't do other administrative tasks such as opening the Device Manager or Local Security Policies either, so I must be missing something elementary. I only upgraded to a DC because oour main s/w vendor refused to support a non-DC environment, and I've been swimming ever since !

Try making the user a member of the administrators group on the LOCAL Tablet pc instead of in the domain Users and computers applet:

On the Tablet PC, right click the My Computer icon, choose "manage", expand local users and groups in the left navigation pane, click users. In the right pane, right click the user account->properties->member of Tab->Add->add administrators local group.

The user in question doesn't appear on the local list of users, since the user logs in under the domain. There is a user directory in the Documents & Settings folder (user.domain), but the user doesn't appear on the local panel.

If the user account isn't there, then ADD it and make it a member of the LOCAL administrators group, log on as that user and see it that works. If it doesn't, then the issue is related to something else and you can remove the user from the local admin group. Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
