Remote Desk Top

Hello all,
I'm trying to connect to my W3K box from a WINXP machine. The connection is to my
external IP address which is set to port 5059 on 192.168.1.60. This connection just
times out.
I have no problem connection to a WinXP box at 192.168.1.44 on port 44.
The W3K box has the firewall turned off so I believe this wouldn't get in the way.
I'm using an external firewall which seems to be working without any problems except
for this issue.
Does anyone know of any other settings in the W3K box which have to be set?
This is driving me crazy, can't figure you why I can do a remote desk top connect
from my office WinXP box to my home WinXP box but not to he W3K box.
BTW, Remote Desktop is set in the system tab on the W3K box.
Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Regards

Do you have port forwarding set up correctly in the router/firewall in front of your
server?

Yes, but I'm using a seperate firewall. We did find out that other machines in the
office can get to it and now it appears that the machine I'm using is on a segment
of the LAN which has some sort of restrictions. Of course it will take the Networking
people forever to find out what the problem really is.
Thanks.

THey are probably filtering certain ports. In any case, reconfigure your W3K box
to listen on a different port.. Try port 80, if you aren't running any IIS services.
I love using that port because all the script kiddy hackers out there think it is
a web server and usually never touch it. Its a wonderful disguise for a commonly
attacked service.
Port 80 would definitely go through your network, because that is the port all the
web browsers in your company use to connect to external web server. :)
In any case, thats the quick work around, to get you up and running.
It also just came to me, you could RDP into your home XP box, and then RDP into your
server from that box. This is how I usually set things up.. That way there is only
one entry point into the network, and from there you connect to the other machines.
